Navy grants one million rupees as death compensation to the family members of Stores Assistant MK Kahawitage
 

The Sri Lanka Navy donated one million rupees as death compensation, under the Navy's healthcare scheme, "Naviru Saviya," to the family members of late Stores Assistant MK Kahawita who served in the Sri Lanka Navy and was unfortunately succumbed to a long term cancer. The cheque in this regard was handed over to Mrs. KDN Perera, the mother of deceased sailor, at the Naval Headquarters today (30).

The sailor joined the Sri Lanka Regular Naval Force as a Stores Assistant on 25th February 2009. The sailor, aged 28, had served at various naval establishments including SLNS Gemunu in Welisara, the establishment where he was last attached to.  

"Naviru Saviya" is a health care scheme, which operates as a non-public fund under the direct supervision of the Commander of the Navy. It provides financial assistance to its members and their families during death, critical illness, permanent and partial disability, general illness, surgery and medical tests.
