Children of naval families awarded Scholarships for their academic excellence
 

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne presided over a ceremony to award scholarships for the children of naval families, who excelled in GCE Ordinary Level 2015-2016, at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, SLNS Parakrama today (June,14).

This scholarship scheme was introduced under a visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, as a motivational factor for the school children to continue with further studies.

Addressing the gathering, Commander of the Navy extended best wishes for the children who reaped the highest fruition in O/L examination through free education introduced by late Dr. CWW Kannangara and went on to comment on the biography of the great Sri Lankan.

Further, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne urged the young achievers to get through the GCE Advanced Level examination with flying colours, promising that the Navy will continue to look into the prospects of high-achievers following the Advanced level examination.

Fourteen (14) children who obtained 9 A passes at the GCE Ordinary Level 2015 - 2016 were eligible for the scholarships. Accordingly, Rs. 5,000 for each month will be deposited into their savings accounts until the completion of two years ahead. The student-beneficiaries received their pass books in this regard from The Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe.

The Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Generals including Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Director General Services, Rear Admiral Nimal Sarathsena, a host of senior officers and parents of the beneficiaries attended this event.
