Another Five Reverse Osmosis plants declared open
 

Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a arrange of community development and social responsibility projects under the able leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. Installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded, is one of the many social responsibility projects undertaken by the Navy.

Going by this noble effort, 05 more RO plants were declared open for community use at Bisobandara village in Medirigiriya, Nagarpura village, Diggalpura village, Divulankadawala village and Naval Detachment in Amaduwa today (June, 27), under the auspices of Navy’s Research and Development Unit.

Accordingly, 450 families at Bisobandara village in Medirigiriya, 375 families at Nagarpura village, 420 families at Diggalpura village, 360 families at Divulankadawala village and 30 naval personnel at Naval Detachment in Amaduwa will hereafter have access to safe drinking water. Four RO systems installed in Medirigiriya region were sponsored by the Presidential Task Force for Prevention of Kidney Diseases and the cost of RO system installed in Naval Detachment was sponsored by the Navy.

As a result of the technological innovations and expertise of the Navy’s Research and Development Unit, a total of 220 Reverse Osmosis plants have been set up in different parts of the country, to provide safe drinking water for 106,590 families and 76,520 school children to date. Besides, the Navy will continue to carry out this noble effort, catering to the drinking water requirement of desperate communities deprived of that basic need.
