Newly enlisted naval officers receive letters of appointment from Commander of the Navy
 

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne handed over away appointment letters to newly enlisted 5 Direct Entry officers / lady officers, 39 Officer Cadets of the 60th Intake and 6 Service Entry candidates, in a ceremony held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium at the Naval Headquarters today (June, 30).

The newly enlisted Direct Entry officers joined the Naval service in the branches of Medical, Shipwright, and Band Master. Meanwhile, the Officer Cadets belonged to Executive, Supply, Engineering, Marine and Provost branches. The Service Entry candidates were enlisted to the Medical and Artificer branches.

Addressing on the occasion, Commander of the Navy congratulated all prospective officers and reminded them to serve the motherland with utmost respect and pride whilst preserving the age old traditions of the Sri Lanka Navy. Further he advised the new group of officers to perform their duty with dignity as they are vested with an enormous responsibility being members of the armed forces. Moreover he highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong navy in safeguarding the sea and its vast amount of resources. Adding further, the Navy Commander urged young officers to shoulder the noble responsibility, being the future guardians of this country.

Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne also went onto mention the supreme sacrifice made by the brave war heroes in bringing lasting peace for the motherland. As such, he requested the young blooded officers to endeavour for the preservation of hard earned peace by their predecessors. In addition, the Commander of the Navy also reminded the newly enlisted officers that military training is not an easy task that requires mental strength over physical strength. Subsequently, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne thanked the parents for giving the consent to their beloved children to serve the motherland with a noble resolve.

Chief Hydrographer of the Navy and Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody Director General Training, Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena a host of senior officers and family members of the newly enlisted officers were also present on the occasion.
