Navy declares open another Reverse Osmosis plant at Ranthetiuyana, Kurunegala
 

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community development projects under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas prone to kidney disease is one of the many such noble projects undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy. Taking further step ahead with this effort, an RO plant was ceremonially declared open at the village of Ranthetiuyana in Ridigama, Kurunegala yesterday (June, 01) for the public use.

The new installation is capable of providing safe drinking water for 350 families in the region. Financial allocation for this project was made by the District Grand Lodge of Sri Lanka.

Following the visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Sri Lanka Navy Research and Development Unit has been playing an instrumental role in devising these systems making use of their technological knowledge and expertise, for prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease. Incidentally, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 224 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 107,390 families and 76,520 school children with safe drinking water. Due to the efficiency of competent naval personnel, they are able to devise these cost-effective units in short span of time. Further, the Navy will continue its community development and social responsibility projects while setting up more RO plants, in a bid to eradicate this kidney menace from Sri Lanka.

This magnanimous effort of the Sri Lanka Navy operated by the Navy has received high local and international recognition. Further, both local and international community extend their generous monetary contribution to carry out this noble effort as well.

Venerable Maha Sanga, senior naval officers, officials of District Grand Lodge of Sri Lanka and a large number of public in the area were present on the occasion.  Further, the Navy’s community service project was highly appreciated by the District Grand Lodge of Sri Lanka and they pledged support to continue this initiative, in collaboration with the Navy.
