Yet another Reverse Osmosis system declared open in Thanamalwila
 

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community development projects under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. Installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas prone to kidney disease is one of the many such magnanimous projects undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy.Making progressive strides with this effort, another RO plant was ceremonially declared open at the village of Kilibunna, Thanamalwila, under the patronage of the Project Director of Uva Province, Mr. Jagath Pushpakumara today (July,07)

The new installation is capable of providing safe drinking water for 120 families in the region. Financial allocation for this project was made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Following a visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Sri Lanka Navy Research and Development Unit has been playing an instrumental role in devising these systems making use of their technological knowledge and expertise, for prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease. Incidentally, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 226 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 107,510 families and 80,185 school children with safe drinking water. Due to the efficiency of competent naval personnel, they are able to devise these cost-effective units in short span of time.

Further, the Navy will continue its community development and social responsibility projects while setting up more RO plants in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded, in a bid to eradicate this menace from Sri Lanka.
