Commander of the Navy hails naval personnel involved in ‘Jumbo’ rescue

During his recent visit to the Eastern Naval Command on Saturday (July, 15) to attend the Golden Jubilee of the Naval and Maritime Academy, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne also took time off to visit the team of naval personnel who made a valiant effort in rescuing the Jumbo stranded at sea on 11th July.

Expressing his views on this spirited feat of the rescue team, the Commander of the Navy hailed the Officers in Charge (OICs) of the Fast Attack Craft and sailors who worked their heart out, engaging in the ‘Jumbo’ rescue effort, under the guidance of the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah.

The rescue effort turned out to be a careful and strenuous one as it was extremely difficult to subdue a hefty wild beast out at sea. However, the naval personnel aided by the officials from the Department of Wildlife managed to save the elephant and guided it to the Yan Oya area in Pulmodai.
