Commander of the Navy makes inspection visit onboard SLNS Sayurala
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne made an inspection visit onboard the latest Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Sri Lanka Navy, SLNS Sayurala today (08, August). The occasion also marked the first visit of the Commander of the Navy onboard ship, upon its ceremonial commissioning.
During the visit, Commander of the Navy looked into the operational aspects of the state of the art vessel and addressed the ship’s crew spearheaded by the Commanding Officer of Sayurala, Captain Nishantha Amarosa. Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne went onto mention the praiseworthy role performed by the entire ship’s crew and awarded Letters of Commendation in appreciation of their service. The occasion was also attended by Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle and a host of senior officers.
The Sri Lanka Navy’s first Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV), built at the Indian shipbuilding facility, Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), arrived at the port of Colombo on 28th July. She was commissioned in a graceful ceremony by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena on 02nd August.
