HE the President appoints new Navy Commander
 

Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah was appointed as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena this morning (18th August 2017). Accordingly, he received the letter of appointment from the President at the President’s Official Residence.

Secretary to the President Mr. Austin Fernando and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne were also present on this occasion

Rear Admiral Sinniah joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1982 as a cadet officer in the 11th Cadet Intake. He has been awarded a number of medals, including the Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya, Rana Wickrama Padakkama and Ranashura Padakkama for his valour and exceptional service rendered for the country.

Meanwhile, the present Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, after being promoted to the rank of Admiral, is scheduled to take over the duties of Chief of the Defence Staff from General Crishantha de Silva on 22nd August.

The duty assumption of the newly appointed Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy will be effective on the same day (22nd August) and promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral.
