Navy Commander makes his first official visit to Eastern Naval Command
 

Having taken over command, the new Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah made his first official visit to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) today (26th August 2017). He was accorded a Guard of Honour and warmly received by the Commander Eastern Naval Area (COMEAST), Rear Admiral Nimal Sarathsena.

The Commander of the Navy was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Thiruni Sinniah and a host of senior naval officers. Several new openings were also made to mark the Commander’s visit to his former naval command.

Accordingly, an inspection of Divisions was held at the main parade grounds of the Naval and Maritime Academy. Thereafter, the Commander of the Navy addressed the naval personnel and planted two tree saplings in the Navy House premises to mark his first official visit to the ENC.

At the Naval Dockyard, the Commander of the Navy opened a Reverse Osmosis Plant, which had been built by the naval personnel, utilizing their knowledge and technical skills. Thereafter, he officially handed over the duties of the ENC to the new COMEAST at the ENC headquarters.

The Commander of the Navy next proceeded to the Headquarters of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) where he declared open a well-equipped gymnasium, which had been constructed for the exclusive use of SBS personnel, who are very keen on maintaining their physical fitness at the highest level for the special operations undertaken by the SLN’s elite fighting formation.

Thereafter, the Commander of the Navy addressed all officers of the ENC, outlining his vision to take the Navy forward under his command. He expressed his full confidence that all naval personnel will perform their duties with commitment and integrity. He also conveyed his best wishes to all naval families, wishing them success in all their endeavours.

The Commander of the Navy and his wife, Mrs. Thiruni Sinniah also made an inspection visit to the pre-school of SLNS Tissa where they were warmly received by the staff and the students. Mrs. Sinniah inspected the classrooms as well as the infrastructure facilities of the pre-school and conveyed her heart-felt appreciation to the staff for their dedication to uplift the educational standards of the institution. She also planted a tree sapling to mark the occasion. Thereafter, Mrs. Sinniah made an inspection visit to the Navy Seva Vanitha Welfare Shop as well.
