Navy assists transfer of critically-ill fisherman ashore for medical treatment

In response to a request made by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Navy assisted the transfer of a critically-ill fisherman ashore for medical treatment today (26 August 2017).

The fisherman had been on board a multi-day fishing trawler named “Tharusha Putha’, which had left Ambalangoda fisheries harbour for fishing. He had fallen ill due to a severe pain in his chest. The Navy promptly dispatched the Fast Attack Craft, P 432, attached to the Southern Naval Command to the location.

The naval personnel reached the fishing trawler in the seas 165 nautical miles off Hambantota and safely transferred the critically-ill fisherman to the Galle harbour. Thereafter, he was rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
