NOLES Field Training Exercise in progress at Welisara Naval Complex

Field training exercises organized as part of NOLES are in progress for the 08th consecutive day at the Welisara Naval Complex. Participants are being given theoretical and practical training in crowd control formation as part of the US Pacific Command’s premier multi-lateral theatre security cooperation event.

The 16th Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Seminar (NOLES) and Field Training Exercise (FTX) are being conducted in collaboration with the US Marine Corps Forces and the Sri Lanka Navy. Seventeen (17) US Marine Corps Forces personnel are taking part in the FTX imparting much needed non-lethal skills to their Sri Lanka Navy counterparts.

NOLES is a two-segment event consisting of both a Field Training Exercise (FTX) and a leadership seminar. It is aimed at promoting the use of non-lethal capabilities that minimize loss of life and damage to infrastructure and seeks new ways to handle unrest in order to prevent human rights violation. The executive seminar, scheduled to get under way at the Hotel Galadari on 30th August, will provide a common platform to all stakeholders to deliberate on issues related to peace support operations.
