Navy effects repairs to Ayagama suspension bridge

The Navy took measures to effect repairs to the suspension bridge at Ayagama, Ratnapura. The bridge had been rendered impassable due to the ravages of the inclement weather that prevailed over the past couple of days. Because of the Navy’s timely intervention, the residents can now use the bridge without any danger from today (11th September). The bridge had been damaged by the rising river waters of the Galathura Ganga and the strong currents triggered by the heavy rains.

Upon alerted by the extensive damage to the suspension bridge, the Navy Headquarters rushed a team of naval personnel headed by an officer to the location. The Navy’s emergency responsive team, with the assistance of the residents, was able to restore the bridge and make it safe for the users within a day.
