Navy arrests 3 persons engaged in illegal acts
 

During raids carried out in the last few days, Navy arrested 3 persons for engaging in illegal fishing and possessing Kerala cannabis in separate locations in the island.

Naval personnel attached to the Southeastern Naval Command arrested 2 persons who practiced illegal fishing using unauthorized fishing nets in Arugambay sea area yesterday (17 December). Along with the persons 2 canoes, 2 unauthorized fishing nets and several other fishing gear were taken into naval custody. They were handed over to the Pothuvil Police for onward legal action.

On receipt of information, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command in coordination with the officials of Mannar Narcotics Division nabbed a suspect with 4.2 kg of Kerala cannabis, during a search conducted in the general area of Nachchikuda on 15 December. The arrested suspect and seized cannabis were handed over to the Mannar Police for further action.
