Inter-ship/craft semaphore, flashing, ROR and rigging competition – 2017

 

The final round of inter-ship/craft semaphore, flashing, ROR and rigging competition 2017 organized by the Naval Fleet Command was held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee on 20 December 2017. The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nimal Sarathsena graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, flag rank officers, Heads of Departments, Commanding Officers of ships and establishments were also attended the event.

Contestants from ships and craft belonging to the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Naval Areas exhibited their skills in relevant spheres in the final round. The aim of the event was to select best performing ship and craft in rigging, ROR, semaphore and flashing. The teams from SLNS Udara and P 436 immerged as the best rigging teams in respective ship/craft category. Meanwhile the teams of SLNS Sayura, P 4444 and P 4446 were elected as the best semaphore and flashing teams.

Lieutenant SMCB Kumara from P 4446 was selected as the best ROR competitors among craft while Lieutenant KR Thalagala from SLNS Sayurala was selected as the best ROR competitors among ships.

Those who excelled during the competition were presented special awards in recognition of their individual performances as well. Accordingly, Able Seaman HARD Rathnasiri won the award for the best Rigger. Lieutenant KR Thalagala bagged the award for the best ROR competitor of the fleet and Leading Communicator JAID Jayakody received the award for the talented semaphore and flashing communicator of the fleet.
