Special religious ceremony held to commemorate naval personnel victimized by tsunami
 

A special religious ceremony was held at the naval base SLNS Dakshina in Galle on 25 and 26 December 2017 to commemorate naval personnel who were victimized by the tsunami devastation 13 years back.

Seven (7) naval personnel attached to SLNS Dakshina lost their lives in 2004 as a result of the devastation that wreaked havoc in the island. The meritorious deed to transfer merits on them was organized under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of SLNS Dakshina, Captain Jagath Premarathna and directives of the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Accordingly, an all-night prith chanting ceremony was held on 25 December. Meanwhile, an almsgiving for Maha Sangha, with the participation of the family members of deceased naval personnel, was held the following day. Deputy Area Commander of the Southern Naval Command, Commodore Hasitha Gamage and a host of officers and sailors also attended these occasions.
