Navy bids farewell to Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva
 

Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva who was the Commander Northern Naval Area, bade farewell to the Navy today (26 February).

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe extended best wishes to Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva and subsequently, the senior officer who retired on completion of 34 years of illustrious naval career, was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. Fellow naval officers and sailors, making a street line, saluted the retiring senior officer in gratitude to his great service and thereupon, he was sent off according to naval customs, mounted on a decorated vehicle amidst the cheers wishing him fair winds and following seas.

Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva joined the Navy as a cadet officer of the 12th intake of Naval & Maritime Academy in 1984. He has rendered a distinguish service holding a number of key appointments during his decade-long naval career.
