A Disaster Management Simulation Exercise conducted by Sri Lanka Navy, successfully concluded at the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Headquarters in Kalpitiya on 23March 2018. The simulation exercise had been held under the supervision of Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations of the Navy, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva.

The event was participated by 10 officers and 81 sailors attached to the Rapid Action Boat Squadron. They were imparted theoretical knowledge as how to respond to a disaster situation and were exposed to simulated conditions of flood and landslides to augment their skills in rescue and relocation of the victims during major catastrophes. Further, the participants were educated on analysing, planning and management of relief efforts, during this programme. This timely initiative organized by the Navy was highly acclaimed by those who were present on the occasion to observe the exercise.

The Gangè Wàdiya area where this simulation exercise was performed is ideally suited for such exercises particularly it being located close to the lagoon and Kalà Oya. The location is one of the famous destinations of naval personnel attached to RABS who regularly performs Disaster Preparedness and Response Training Programmes.

Navy is determined to continue initiatives of this nature in collaboration with the Disaster Management Centre and Civil Society Organizations in the future as well.
