Capping ceremony of naval nurses held at Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium
 

The capping ceremony of naval nurses belonging to the Naval Nursing School located at SLNS Thakshila was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium of SLNS Parakrama yesterday (05 April 2018) on high note. This batch of naval nurses was enlisted in year 2016 to the Naval Nursing School which is accredited to the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). The ceremony also saw the nurses reciting the Nurse’s Pledge promising an effective and efficient service.

Director General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations of the Navy, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, Director General of Health Services of Navy, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sena Rupa Jayawardena, Director Generals of the Navy, senior officers from the Navy and officials from the Ministry of Health were also present on this occasion.

After the lighting of traditional oil lamp the proceedings of capping ceremony commenced and it was attended by Director Nursing Education, Rajula Devi Vallipuranathan, Director Nursing Medical Services, MBC Samanmalee, Director Nursing Public Health, RLS Rajapaksha, Principal Past Basis Collage of Nursing, Ashoka Abenayaka, Principal School of Nursing Mulleriyawa, WARP Menike, Chief Special Grade Nursing Officer Teaching Hospital Ragama, Kumudu Kumari

Subsequently, the distinguished invitees passed the symbolic lamp of nursing to the nursing students giving prominence to age-old customs. Meanwhile, medals were also awarded to the nurses in recognition of their academic excellence during examinations of the first semester.
