Navy’s Indika Dissanayake and rest of the Commonwealth weightlifters warmly welcomed at BIA
 

The Sri Lankan weightlifters who brought much glory to the island nation by winning several medals at the Commonwealth Games - 2018 currently being held at Gold Coast, Australia arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (11 April 2018).

After a warm welcome received at the Bandaranaike International Airport the athletes mounted on a special double-decker bus, amidst the cheers of crowd gathered on streets, proceeded to the Ministry of Sports where the main welcome ceremony had been organized under the patronage of the Minister of Sports, Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara. Able Seaman Indika Dissanayake of Navy, who won a silver medal at this year’s Commonwealth Games was also among the weightlifters who were felicitated. His achievement goes down in SLN sporting history as the most notable triumph made by a naval athlete in the international level to date.

The occasion was also attended by Director Naval Sports, Commodore Lasantha Gamage, President Sri Lanka Navy Weightlifting, Commander Sanjeewa Perera and several officers from the Directorate of Naval Sports.
