Navy extends further assistance in disaster relief work
 

The prevailing inclement weather condition in the country severely affected the routine lifestyle of the general public across the island. It is in this backdrop, the Sri Lanka Navy stepped-up flood relief operations, carried out by 43 teams along with the same number of dinghies, in affected areas in the Southern and Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces of the island, of late.

Navy dinghies provide transport facilities in flood ridden areas of Ayagama, Rathnapura

The flood emergencies at Ayagama in the Rathnapura District triggered by prevailing adverse weather condition slashed the routine affairs of the community in the area making the transportation for necessities extremely difficult. Accordingly, a team of naval personnel attached to the Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) conducted a boat service in the area for the benefit of affected people.

Tree fallen across road in Thunmodara, Vennappuwa removed

A naval relief team cleared a road blocked by a tree fallen across the road in Thunmodara, Vennappuwa, restoring the transportation in the area.

Save two persons in a vehicle stranded by flood water on Naththandiay – Negombo road

Another naval relief team deployed in Naththandiya area managed to save two persons in a van stranded by flood water on Naththandiay – Negombo road around 4.00 a.m. today (24 May 2018). Subsequently, the rescued persons were directed to safe locations.

Meanwhile, Navy has put on its relief teams standby to meet any kind of eventuality in a bid to assist distressed public.
