Navy rescues two fishermen stranded at southern seas

A Fast Attack Craft (FAC) attached to the Southern Naval Command rescued two (02) fishermen stranded at sea off Hambantota yesterday (10 June 2018). The dinghy on which the fishermen were aboard had left the Tangalle fisheries harbour on 08th June and experienced an engine failure while in the sea area of Hambantota.

Immediately upon receipt of information in this regard, a Fast Attack Craft patrolling at southern seas was engaged to rescue the missing fishermen, under the directives of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera. Accordingly, the FAC located the missing trawler drifting at sea about 08 nautical miles off Great Bases Reef Lighthouse.

Having taken the distressed fishermen to the Hambantota harbour the Navy made sure that they are in good health before handing them over to their relations.
