Navy wordsmiths receive prizes for their prolific writing at Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition
 

The prize and certificate awarding to the winners of the Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition, organized by the Naval Research Wing, took place under the auspices of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Naval Headquarters today (11th July).

The occasion was also attended by Head of Naval Research Wing and Director Naval Training, Commodore Jayantha Kularathna and Deputy Director Naval Research Wing, Captain AR Raymond. The essay competition was held under three categories in which the below mentioned officers and sailors secured their places in respective categories and won lucrative cash awards along with certificates.

Commander and above (English medium)

1st Place - Commander (C) N Dahanayake
2nd Place - Commander (N) HPRP Amarasinghe
3rd Place - Commander (G) SP Kathriarachchi

 

Lieutenant Commander and below (English medium)

1st Place - Lieutenant Commander (G) WMS Chinthaka
2nd Place - Captain (NCC) WASL Wickramasinghe
3rd Place - Lieutenant Commander (ASW) APA Prasanga

 

Sailors (Sinhala medium)

1st Place - Petty Officer MMGCP Samarakoon
2nd Place - Able Seaman KMAK Kahathuduwa
3rd Place - Medical Assistant WMAK Waranasooriya

 

The essay competition which was organized in view of honing the written competencies of the naval personnel in the Sri Lanka Navy, was named as “Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition” since year 2015.
