Navy apprehend 30 persons for engaging in illegal acts
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 30 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing and selling of narcotic drugs.

Accordingly, a troop of Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command apprehended fifteen persons (15) who engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Point Pedro on last 9th July. Illegal catchment of Sea Cucumber 30 in number and five dinghies were also nabbed and they along with the suspects were handed over to the Fisheries Department-Point Pedro for legal proceedings.

Naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command apprehended 04 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities in Periya Achchai sea area, on 9th July. A dinghy and other fishing gears were taken into Naval custody and the suspects along with the fishing gears handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries -Puttalam for onward action.

A troop of Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command on foot patrol in lagoon area Batticoloa recovered twenty two (22) banned nets on last 9th and 11th July and they were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Batticaloa for necessary legal action.

Further on 11th of July, Six (06) persons who engaged in illegal fishing in Panayeddipiti sea area had been nabbed by the Naval troops attached to the South Eastern Naval Command. Along with the persons two dinghies, 35 Nos of Sea Cucumber, 36 Nos of Conch Shells and other fishing gears were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons, dinghies and other items were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector - Oluvil for legal action.

On the same day, on information received to the Navy a person who was transferring narcotic drugs was apprehended by Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Nava Command, during a raid carried out in Vakarai area with the assistant of Vakarai Police. Accordingly, 3g of Kerala Cannabis possessed by the person was recovered and the suspect, KG and the Three Wheeler used for transportation was handed over to Vakarai Police for onward legal action.

Meanwhile, a Naval troop attached to Eastern Naval Command on foot patrol, apprehended a person who possessed banned fishing gears, at Poondi beach area on last 12th July. A banned net and a dinghy possessed by him were taken into naval custody and they were handed over to Fisheries Inspector-Mutoor for onward legal action.

Two persons who were transporting a haul of beef illegally were apprehended by a troop of Naval personnel attached to Eastern Naval Command on patrol, in sea off Jaffna Fort on 13th July. Two suspects along with the apprehended beef stock of 150 Kg and the Wallam were handed over to Jaffna Police for legal action.

On information received by the Navy, a troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command with the assistance of Police STF-Mannar, apprehended a person who engaged in preparing prohibited drugs for sale, while searching a house in Pudukudiruppu, on 14th July. Hundred and ten grams (110g) of Kerala Cannabis possessed by the suspect was taken into Naval custody and it, along with the suspect was handed over to Police STF-Mannar for onward legal action.
