Sri Lankan champion slicers warmly welcomed at BIA
 

The 5th Carrom World Cup hosted by the Korea Carrom Federation was held from 24th to 29th August 2018 at Songam Sports Town, Chuncheon in South Korea with the participation of 160 players from 20 countries. During the tournament, the Sri Lanka men’s team secured the championship and the women’s team became the runners up in team events.

Representing the country, Ordinary Seaman Nishantha Fernando and Women Ordinary Seaman Joseph Roshita of the Sri Lanka Navy took part in the tournament and managed to clinch the 4th and 6th places in singles. Meanwhile, in doubles Ordinary Seaman Nishantha Fernando and Chamil Cooray clinched the 3rd place in men’s category. Similarly, in women’s doubles Women Ordinary Seaman Joseph Roshita and Yasika Rahubaddha managed to win the 3rd spot.

The slicers who brought much credit to the motherland at the 5th Carrom World Cup arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (31st August) and they were warmly welcomed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by Hon. Sarathie Dushmantha Mithrapala, Deputy Minister of Justice and Buddhasasana. The occasion was also attended by Secretary Sri Lanka Navy Carrom, Lieutenant Commander Roshan Jayathilake and officers attached to the Navy Director Sports.
