Three hundred and eighty four (384) recruit sailors of 232^nd regular intake pass out in Poonewa
 

Three hundred and eighty four (384) naval recruits belonging to the 232^nd regular intake of Sri Lanka Navy, on completion of their basic training, passed out at the main parade ground of SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa on 1^st September. Director General Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Rear Admiral Upul Ekanayake, graced the colourful ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Members of the Maha Sanga, religious dignitaries of other faiths, The Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Muditha Gamage, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy Commodore Kalana Jinadasa, Commandant and the Commanding Officer of SLNS Shiksha Captain Asoka Wijesiriwardane, senior naval officers of the Navy Headquarters and North Central Naval Command, senior officers from the sister services and Police, officers of government and private sector in the area and parents of the sailors who passed out were also present on this glamorous occasion.

At the end of the colorful parade, trophies were awarded to those who were outstanding in various disciplines during basic training. Recruit KWGIA Welegedara was adjudged the best recruit of 232^nd Intake. Recruit GGLS Gunasena, Recruit SS Ayesha, Recruit KMN Jayathilaka and Woman Recruit HMS Maduwanthi were adjudged the highest aggregate holder, the best marksman, the best sportsman and the best sportswoman respectively. Out of 14 divisions, Yashodara division became the best division of 232^nd Intake.

Addressing the newly passed out recruits and their parents, the Chief Guest first expressed his gratitude to the beloved parents for giving their consent for the children to join Sri Lanka Navy in order to fulfill a national requirement. Further, the Chief Guest urged the newly passed out recruits who joined the Naval family, to accomplish their duties and responsibilities with dedication and honour for the betterment of the Navy.

Finally, he extended his gratitude to the Commandant and the directing staff of SLNS Shiksha for their commitment in molding the recruits to a competent sailor.
