Scholarships awarded for the children of Naval families
 

The scholarship awarding ceremony for the children of Naval families who excelled at the G.C.E. (O/L) examination in 2017, was held under the patronage of Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Piyal de Silva at the Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake auditorium in SLNS Parakrama, yesterday (10th Sep). This awarding of scholarship was initiated by the Sri Lanka Navy Welfare in view of encouraging further higher education of the children of Naval families.

Addressing the gathering the Chief of Staff, on behalf of SL Navy, congratulated the children who obtained distinctive results at G.C.E. (O/L) and stressed that they should commit to get through the hurdle of Advanced Level while improving the knowledge, attitudes and skills in order to take over the future of the motherland. Further, he blessed them all for a flourishing result at the Advanced Level so as to enter the university.

Thirty three (33) children who obtained 9 ‘A’s at G.C.E. (O/L) examination in 2017 received scholarships. This group includes 6 children of Naval personnel Killed in Action and disabled and 27 children of Naval personnel in active service. Accordingly, they will receive Rs. 5000.00 in each month for two years. The pass books opened at Bank of Ceylon for this process and certificates were distributed by the Chief of Staff of SL Navy.

Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna, Acting Director General Services Commodore Nilantha Heenatigala, Senior Officers of NHQ and Western Naval Command and the parents of scholarship recipients were also present on this occasion.
