Navy assists to apprehend two (02) persons for engaging in illegal activities
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 02 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing and possession of explosive.

 Accordingly, a person who engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets in Kokilai area was apprehended by a troop of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command on 21st October. There, a banned net, a dinghy and other fishing gears used by him were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended person along with the fishing gears was handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Mulathivu for onward legal action.

 On information received to the Navy, a troop of Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command, recovered hidden unfixed parts of a motorbike whilst a raid carried out in Nagarkovil   area on last 23rd October. The recovered parts were handed over to the SL Customs Office-Kankasnathurai for legal proceedings.

 Meanwhile, a person who had hidden some explosive at a fishing hut in South Bar, was apprehended by a troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval command with the assistance of Mannar Police, on 24th October. The recovered explosive included 29 gelignite sticks and 25 non electric detonators with safety fuse. The person along with the apprehended explosive was handed over to Delft Police for onward legal action.

 Further, a troop of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command recovered, ten (10) suspicious parcels hidden in the beach whilst a raid carried out in Wellai area in the Delft island on 24th October. Fifty one (51) kg of Beedi leaves were found in the parcels and that haul of Beedi leaves were handed over to Jaffna Police for legal action.
