Navy assists to apprehend six (06) persons for engaging in illegal activities
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 06 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing and possession of illegal fishing gears.

Accordingly, 37 banned nets were recovered by a troop of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command whilst on patrol in the lagoon area of Ulliakkalli, on 30th Oct. The recovered nets were handed over to the Director of Fisheries-Batticoloa for onward action.

On last 31st October, a troop of Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command whilst on foot patrol, recovered 205 small packets (141 g) of Kerala Cannabis, hidden in Lankapatuna area. The recovered haul of KG was handed over to Serunuwara Police for onward legal action.

Further, on information received to the Navy, a troop of naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command recovered, four (04) suspicious parcels hidden in the beach whilst a raid carried out on a special patrol in Sinnagunduwa area on 31st October. Hundred and fifty four (154)  of Kendu (Beedi) leaves were found in the parcels and that haul of Beedi leaves were handed over to Kalpitiya Police for legal action.

Meanwhile, 02 persons who engaged in fishing  without fishing passes and set the fish catch for transferring, were apprehended by a troop of naval personnel attached to the South Eastern Naval Command on 2nd November. There, 218 numbers of lobsters (84.5 kg), a dinghy, a Maruti van were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons along with the stock of lobsters and the fishing gears were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Panama for onward action.

On last 1st of November, a suspicious bag was recovered by the Naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command on patrol. The recovered bag contained 135 packets of Glyphosate and that was handed over to Kalpitiya Police for further investigation.

A troop of Naval personnel attached to the South Eastern Naval Command apprehended four (04) persons who engaged in fishing without fishing passes in Ulla sea area on last 03rd Nov. 21 lobsters caught by them, 04 Canoes, 24 banned nets and other fishing gears were also nabbed and these items along with the suspects were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Ulla for legal proceedings.
