Special Boat Squadron proudly celebrates its silver jubilee
 

Members of Special Boat Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy proudly celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 09th November 2018 at the Special Boat Squadron Headquarters in Trincomalee which was foamed on 08th November 1993, with the presence of its founder, the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathne, other senior officers of Sri Lanka Navy along with the families of late heroes and the veterans.

The ceremony was begun with overnight Pirith chanting on 09th November 2018 followed by alms giving ceremony on following day morning for 25 monks. Thereafter, families of heroes those who sacrificed their lives by making ultimate scarification for the beloved motherland and veterans wounded in action were awarded with mementoes in appreciation of noble service they rendered to the nation.

Two special token of appreciation were given to the Mrs Druki Martenstyn, the spouse of the late Cdr Cedric Martenstyn the co-founder of the Special Boat Squadron and to Mrs Ruwani Dissanayaka the spouse of late CPO (SBS) KG Shantha who had been awarded with the “Parama Weera Vibhushanaya” padakkama, the highest gallantry medal of the country.

The awarded ceremony was followed by the celebration of fallen heroes at the SBS “Wall of honour” which was built to mark the 25th Anniversary. The Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Piyal de Silva, Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe, Director Naval Infantry & Director Naval Marine Rear Admiral Udeni Serasinghe, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet Rear Admiral Ananda Guruge, Director Naval Projects & Plans Rear Admiral Ajith Samarasinghe, Director Maritime Special Forces Commodore Sanjeewa Dias and many other senior officers representing Naval Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command and previous commanding officers were among the distinguish invitees.
