376 recruits of 233rd intake pass out in Poonewa
 

The passing out parade of 376 regular and volunteer recruits belonging to the 233rd intake was held on 24th November 2018 at the main parade ground of SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa, marking the completion of their 06 month basic training course. The Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Perera graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took the salute.

Members of the Maha Sanga and religious dignitaries of other faiths, the Deputy Area Commander of North Central Naval Area, Commodore Sanath Uthpala, Commandant SLNS Shiksha, Captain (H) Asoka Wijesiriwardana, senior officers representing the Naval Headquarters and North Central Naval Command, officers and sailors of SLNS Shiksha, senior officers of the sister services and Police, Additional District Secretary of Vavuniya, Mr T Thireskumar, officials from the government and private institutions and parents and relatives of the newly passed out recruits were also present on this special occasion.

During the awards presentation held in recognition of the excellent performers, Recruit HWS Madusanka was adjudged the Best Recruit of the 233rd intake. Meanwhile, Recruit MK Akalanka won the award for the recruit with the highest aggregate in all subjects. Further, Recruit MPKW Wickramasinghe and Recruit DMJG Prasad were adjudged the Best Marksman and the Best Sportsman respectively. Parakumba Division became the Best Division of the 233rd intake.

The ceremonial evening also saw an impressive drill display presented by the newly passed out recruits followed by a cultural show of the naval culture troupe with their rhythmic beats and associated formalities.
