All-night ‘Pirith’ chanting and alms-giving held in Welisara to coincide with 68th anniversary celebrations of Navy
 

To coincide with the 68th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy, an all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting and offering of alms were held at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 30th November and 01st December.

The first day’s (30th November) events of celebration started off in front of the symbolic war memorial at SLNS Welisara under the patronage of the Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara) and Commanding Officer SLNS Gemunu, Commodore Bandula Senarathna, recalling the memory of unmatched bravery of the Navy’s fallen war heroes.

In the evening, the Commander of the Navy respectfully brought the casket housing the relic, in a colourful procession comprised of dancers of the Navy cultural troupe. On completion of the all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting, alms and ‘Pirikara’ were offered to the Maha Sngha the following day (01st December). Maha Sangha delivered an ‘Anusasana’ and invoked blessings on the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel in the organization.

This meritorious occasion was also attended by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Sandya Ranasinghe, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva, a large number of senior and junior officers attached to the Naval Headquarters and the Western Naval Command, sailors and members of the naval families.
