Navy held 5 persons engaged in illegal acts
 

Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 5 persons engaged in illegal acts at various locations in the island during the past few days. These suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing, using explosive for fishing and sand mining.

Accordingly, on information provided by the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Galle, Naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command apprehended 02 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities using explosive in Rumassala beach area on last 4th December. Fifteen (15) kgs of fish catch, 500 g of Water gel explosive, 01 non-electric detonator and a Canoe were also taken in to naval custody. The suspects along with the fish stock and the explosive were handed over to Habaraduwa Police for onward action.

On last 5th December, twenty four (24) kgs of turtle flesh was taken into Naval custody at Vankalai beach area by a troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command and the flesh was handed over to Wildlife Guard-Vankalai for necessary legal action.

Two persons (02) who were mining and loading sand at the beach area in right side of Paleithivu island were nabbed by a naval troop attached to the Northern Naval Command on 7th December. 57 sacks of sand and a dinghy possessed by them were apprehended and these items along with the suspects were handed over to Kayts Police for legal action.

Meanwhile, a persons who was practicing illegal fishing at Kudawella Fisheries harbor was apprehended by a troop of Naval personnel attached to Southern Naval Command, on 8th December and he was handed over to Tangalle Police for legal action.
