SLN Midshipmen at Admiral Cup Regatta 2018 in India
 

The ninth edition of Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta organized by the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala was held at Ettikulam Beach from 02nd to 06th December 2018 on high note. Representing the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), Midshipman Geeth Isharaka (33rd KDU) and Midshipman Dinindu De Soyza (59th Cadet Entry), under trainees of the Naval and Maritime Academy, took part in the sailing regatta.

After 5 days of mastery of wing-sails the Sri Lanka Navy Midshipmen managed to secure the 06th position in the competition, bringing credit to the Sri Lanka Navy and Naval and Maritime Academy. The event participants of the SLN were accompanied by the Officer in Charge Physical Training Instructor School, Lieutenant Roshan De Silva.

The Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta was attended by 62 officer under trainees from navies of 31 countries including Sri Lanka, Italy, Singapore, USA and China. The Sri Lanka Navy made its presence in the competition for the 9th time and engagements of this nature will help improve the camaraderie with navies in world and hone the SLN’s skills in sporting arena.

Further, the two Midshipmen who represented the Navy at the Admiral Cup Regatta 2018 met Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Naval Headquarters yesterday (10th December). The Navy Commander appreciated their performances displayed in the competition and encouraged them to reach greater heights in future events. The team’s manager Lieutenant Roshan De Silva was also present on this occasion.
