68th anniversary of SLN celebrated in Hawaii on high note

The ship’s company of P 626 which is currently in the port of Honolulu in Hawaii, USA had taken part in several events organized to coincide with the 68th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Amidst their busy schedule in preparing the ship safe to sail home tentatively in February 2019, the crew members undertook cleaning, painting and giving a face lift to the Sacred Falls International Meditation Center in Hawaii on 08th December 2018.

The meritorious act rendered by the ship’s crew happened to be the first ever community service initiative of such magnitude performed by a group of Sri Lankans, in Hawaiian Islands. The Chief Prelate of the Buddhist Center, Venerable Gnanadhara Thero and Venerable Athale Sumane Thero invoked the blessings on P 626 and its ship’s company upon completion of the event.

Meanwhile, 110 crew members of P 626, despite the fact that they are thousands of miles away from the motherland, made no mistake to celebrate the 68th Navy Day in a grand manner, in keeping with age old naval traditions, on 09th December 2018. The morning divisions were inspected and the Navy Day message was read by the Executive Officer of the ship, Commander Indika De Silva.

Subsequently officers, sailors and invitees from different US Coast Guard vessels joined partaking of traditional luncheon onboard ship. Naval Secretary to the Commander of the Navy, Captain (S) Achala Silva who was in Hawaii for an official commitment was also present on this occasion.
