Nine (09) Indian trawlers released from Sri Lankan custody

Nine (09) Indian fishing trawlers held by the Sri Lanka Navy for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters were released from Sri Lankan custody yesterday (20th January). The handing over of these trawlers was done with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.

These trawlers moored at the jetty of SLNS Uththara in Kankesanthurei were repaired by a dedicated team of Indian engineers who arrived in Sri Lanka on 17th January. Accordingly, a craft of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard escorted the repaired trawlers to the IMBL north of Kankesanthurei last evening and handed them over to the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Ameya’.
