Navy apprehends a group of persons transferred sand
 

Six (06) persons who were transferring sand in Dehiwatta area, Kantale were apprehended by a troop of Marine personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command in coordination with Police STF-Trincomalee, yesterday (24th January).

Further, as a result of the discussions held by Mr. Asela Iddawela, the Chairman Geological Survey and Mines Bureau with HE the President, several steps have been taken to eradicate the sand miners activities along the banks of Mahaveli river, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy. Accordingly, these illegal sand miners were nabbed at the very first operation carried out by a Marine group headed by the Commanding Officer of the Naval Marine Force under the directives of Commander of the Navy.

Four tractors, a lorry and a stock of sand were taken into naval custody and subsequently they were handed over to Muthoor Police for onward legal action.

This type of another sand miner was also apprehended at Kaludaweli area in Batticoloa on last 6th of January.
