Two (02) persons held by Navy for engaging in illegal fishing
 

A group of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command held 02 persons for engaging in illegal fishing using unauthorized fishing nets in the sea area 01 nautical mile east of the Palaithivu Island yesterday (24^th January). During the arrest, several unauthorized fishing nets, a dinghy, 19 illegally caught sea cucumbers and 25kg of fish were also seized by the Navy.

The apprehended persons along with their fishing gear, illegally caught sea cucumbers and the stock of fish were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward legal action.
