Navy apprehends 13 persons engaged in illegal fishing
 

A troop of Naval personnel attached to the North Western Naval Command apprehended 13 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities using banned nets in the seas off Sinnapadu area in Kalpitiya, yesterday (01 February). Four dinghies, a banned net and other fishing gears were taken into naval custody and all of them along with the persons were handed over to the office of the Assistant Fisheries Inspector-Puttaluam for onward legal action.

Further, during the last month, large number of banned nets hidden in various areas and persons who used banned nets for fishing have been apprehended by the Navy. Under the directives of the government, Sri Lanka Navy is committed and always vigilant in the cause of eradicating such illegal activities all over the island.
