Navy apprehends fish caught with explosive

A team of Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command recovered a haul of fish caught using explosive and a dinghy, during a patrol carried out at Thuduwa beach area in Pulmuddai , yesterday (19 February). It is suspected that the persons involved have escaped leaving the fish in the dinghy.

A dinghy, one out board machine, blasted electric detonator cap and 50 kg of fish catch were taken into naval custody and these items were handed over to Pulmuddai Police for onward action.

Further, two persons involved in distribution of explosive used for illegal fishing were nabbed by the SL Navy, in Mannar and Kinniya areas and Navy is frequently alerted to seize such illegal activities.
