Navy extends further assistance to identify pertinent locations for sand mining in Trincomalee

After issuing a temporary order of prohibition for sand mining around the Mahaweli river from 15 to 28 of February, Sri Lanka Geological Survey and Mining Bureau carried out a field survey in order to assess the sand mining process in Trincomalee district from 21st to 23rd February and Sri Lanka Navy assisted for this mission.

Accordingly, as another part of the field survey around the Mahaweli river, sand mining locations in Neelapola area, Trincomalee were inspected, yesterday (21 February).

During these field surveys, suitable places for sand mining are identified and previously issued licenses are also examined and the surveys are assisted by the officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Sri Lanka Geological Survey and Mining Bureau, Central Environmental Authority, District Secretary’s Office and Sri Lanka Police.
