Navy arrests 02 persons for engaging in illegal fishing

A group of naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command during a foot patrol conducted in Palliyawasalapadu area arrested 02 persons for towing a beach seine net by means of a tractor yesterday (22nd February). Naval personnel also took into custody the 1,800-foot long fishing net and the tractor used for this illegal activity.

The arrested persons have been identified as residents of Sinnapadu and Kokkantivu aged 57 and 42. The suspects along with the items were handed over to the Puttalam Fisheries Inspector for onward investigation.

Meanwhile, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command during a routine patrol carried out in the Batticaloa lagoon area managed to find 02 unauthorized fishing nets yesterday (22nd February). The two fishing nets were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Batticaloa for onward action.
