1053.75 kg of more Beedi leaves recovered during the Naval raid

Naval personnel attached to an Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) belonging to the North Central Naval Command, during a search, found 323.4kg of beedi leaves left behind in the sea area of Pesalai, Mannar yesterday (07th March). Meanwhile, 1053.75 kg of more Beedi leaves were recovered by further search conducted at the same area, in the morning today (8th March).

Accordingly, 1377.15 kg of Beedi leaves have been recovered by the Naval raids carried out yesterday and today. These recovered Beedi leaves were packed as parcels and it is believed that this is an attempt of bringing those from India.The stock of Beedi leaves is to be handed over to Jaffna customs.

Sri Lanka Navy carries out frequent patrol along the territorial waters and coastal line in order to foil the attempts of smuggling across the sea and coastal areas around the island. Since the committed and vigilant duties conducted by Naval personnel most of these smuggling attempts have been seized. Further, on last 31st January 529 kg of Beedi leaves were recovered at Noor Street in Mannar, following the information provided by the Navy.
