Eleven (11) Indian fishermen arrested for engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters

Navy arrested 11 Indian fishermen along with 02 fishing trawlers belonging to them for engaging in illegal fishing last night (23rd March). The arrest was made by a group of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command, during a routine patrol in the sea area 04 nautical miles off the Analathivu Island.

The arrested fishers and seized fishing trawlers were brought to the naval base SLNS Elara and the fishers will be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward legal action, following a medical test.
