Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Exercise – 19 to begin on 18th April

The Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) – 19 exercise between the US Pacific Fleet and Sri Lanka Navy is scheduled to be held in Hambantota from 18th to 27th April 2019.

A group of officers from both the US Pacific Fleet and Sri Lanka Navy, on 27th March, inspected the sites in selected areas of the Hambantota region where exercises are scheduled to be performed and a bilateral discussion, presided over by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samarweera, was held at the Auditorium of Southern Naval Command the following day (28th March). The event was also attended by Director Naval Operations, Commodore Sanjeewa Dias and Deputy Area Commander Southern Naval Command, Commodore Ranjith Premarathna.

Commander Southern Naval Area briefed all naval personnel the instruction needed for the successful conduct of the exercise and expressed that maximum dedication and contribution are expected from everyone.

The final phase of the discussion with regard to CARAT-19 was held at the New Boardroom of the Naval Headquarters on 31st March and the discussion was headed by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle.
