5 persons engaged in fishing without valid passes apprehended by Navy

A team of Naval personnel apprehended 5 persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas South of Kachchativu island, yesterday (25th April).

Accordingly, Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval command, had observed two suspicious fishing craft engaged in fishing in the seas South of Kachchativu island. During the search, the suspicious persons were apprehended since they were unable to produce valid passes for fishing.

A trawler, a dinghy, an OBM and a net used for fishing have also been taken into Naval custody. Apprehended persons have identified as residents of Mannar area and they along with the other fishing utensils were handed over to Delft Police for onward action.
