Two (02) persons arrested for catching lobsters without valid permit

Naval personnel arrested 02 persons for catching lobsters without a valid permit in Sandy Bay, Trincomalee yesterday (28th April).

Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to an Inshore Patrol Craft belonging to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol in Sandy Bay area, arrested 02 persons who were catching lobsters. When the arrest was made, the suspect only had a permit issued for catching ornamental fish. The Navy also seized a dinghy, an outboard motor and a 550g lobster during the arrest. The arrested persons are residents of Court Road, Trincomalee, aged 41 and 25.

The 02 suspects together with the dinghy, outboard motor, lobster and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Trincomalee for onward action.
