Navy arrests a haul of fish caught using dynamite

A Naval team arrested a person with a haul of fish caught using dynamite at Erakkandi area in Trincomalee on 19^th May.

Accordingly, a Naval team attached to the Eastern Naval Command arrested a person with a haul of 33kg fish which had been caught illegally using dynamite, during a raid carried out in Erakkandi area. This haul of fish was arrested while it had been set for sale at his home.

The suspect is a resident of Erakkandi area, aged 22 and he along with the haul of fish was handed over to the office of the Fisheries Inspector through Kuchchaweli Police.

Since the fish breeding spots, aquatic plants and animals and small fish are destroyed by these types of illegal means of fishing, Sri Lanka Navy is always on watchful eye to avert illegal activities in the sea.
