Under the special directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Sri Lanka Navy organized an awareness programme to reveal the harmful impacts of explosive materials on the national security, when unauthorized parties have an access to such items.

As such, the inaugural programme focused on addressing quarry owners and the event was held at the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha yesterday, covering the Colombo district, with the participation of 119 metal and lime stone quarry owners. During the programme, the quarry owners were advised to use explosives obtained under a license only for the dedicated purpose. Further, it was highlighted that unauthorized partners would not get an opportunity to access such materials when the supervision is strict and regulation is proper.

The programme was conducted by Staff Officer (Diving), Lieutenant Commander (Diving) Janaka Udagearachchi. It was also attended by Additional Secretary of the Colombo District, Divisional Secretary of Seethawaka and Explosive Controller of the Colombo District.

In the meantime, the Navy will continue to undertake a series of awareness programmes of this nature in every district across the country to educate the authorized stakeholders apart from carrying out search operations to seize illegal explosive materials, as it always considers that the national security is of paramount importance.
