Navy undertakes beach cleaning drive to coincide with World Environment Day

To coincide with the World Environment Day that falls on 05th June, officers and sailors attached to the Southern Naval Command volunteered to clean the beach lying adjacent to Galle Dutch Fort today.

Going by the directives of His Excellency the President, a National Environment Week has been declared to encourage people to be more green-activists. Therefore, this year’s Environment Day is celebrated under the theme of “Reducing Air Pollution through Sustainable Forest Management”.

As such a series of programmes have been implemented across the country with the involvement of tri-forces, Police and state sector employees to create an environmentally friendly community, trough active participation.
